One small step for a boy!
This post ought to be narrated by Neil Armstrong. In fact, if I can find that famous broadcast I might add it. For the last few days we've noticed Charlie getting steadier on his feet, and even standing up unaided. Then yesterday, with perfect timing, while Sally was helping him unwrap his birthday presents, he decided to show-off his new found skill. And after that, there was no stopping him! Next step (no pun intended) - talking. Watch this space: the pace of change is quickening!

Go Charlie!
ReplyDeleteYay! I remember No.1 walking the day after her first birthday. No.2 did it about a month afterwards, then thought 'sod this' and went back to crawling for another 4 months!

Congratulations Charlie!
ReplyDeleteBefore you know it, he will running - and falling - everywhere....
Fantastic - he must be a week or two ahead of our little'un: so far he's had a few unsuccessful take-offs from Cape Canaveral but the the engines are getting stonger!

ReplyDeleteOops. So good it needed saying twice! ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd why not, Steve? We've had some spills this morning, NVG, at play group and - yes - he's gone back down on all fours, Kitty (probably for his own protection in the toddler scrum). But we're still cheering him on, Laura.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant, thanks for sharing that, lovely to see a family basking in the glory of Charlie's achievements.
ReplyDeleteBut forget the natter next, what about climbing on everything?
Woo hooo Charlie - off you go - there'll be no stopping him now , into and onto everything
ReplyDeleteCharlie may have as many delighted admirers as N Armstrong soon!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting!!!!! wOOt!!!
ReplyDeleteGood on you, Charlie!
ReplyDeleteWell done on filming this special moment!
Atta boy Charlie! Wonderful. I remember when my son first started walking. Magical. But now Charlie's mobile you'll have to watch him every step of the way!
ReplyDeleteHe walks tall...and that smile is a winner!
ReplyDeleteAwww, bless.
ReplyDeleteHe's been doing that for a while, SPD. I think that's why he's suddenly quite steady in his feet - he's built his leg muscles up the hard way!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Jan - as if he doesn't give me the runaround already!
Well, possibly Frankophile. I must say his steps do look a bit like a speeded up film of Armstrong et al moonwalking.
Exciting, frightening, exasperating and frustrating all in equal measure, Mal.
He was very obliging, Catherine - performing it again when I got the camera, different takes, new angles and the like. Quite the pro!
I'm taking his uncle's advice, DD, and putting a bell around his neck. And bolts on all the doors.
He is quite tall, NB. He's already getting too long for his snowsuit! (Comes of having a 6' 3" dad, I suppose!)
Bless, and curse, Suzanne. No, it's a wonderful moment - but it's all happening too quickly. He was only one yesterday (and I find that difficult to believe). Help!
What a fabulous birthday ! It's such a fantastic age, enjoy !
ReplyDeleteYou've had it now, he'll be in to eveything. Better rush down to Mothercare for some cupboard locks!
ReplyDeleteIt's weird. We all say it doesn't matter when they walk...they'll get there in heir own time...there's no hurry to grow up... Yet we're soooooo proud when they actually do it!
ReplyDeleteAnother milestone, congratulations to Charlie. Keep going all misty eyed when i read your blog as i remember my own and how they were at that age. And the tangible thrill you get at that first step.
ReplyDeleteMy son took his first steps just days after his first birthday like charlie but daughter didn't walk till about 15 months! Was really miserable about it, especially with the competitiveness of the NCT group and some of theirs walking at 9 months or something - its funny how those things mean so much at the time. xxxx
Well done Charlie! That skill will stand you (no pun intended!) in good stead.
ReplyDeleteJust visiting to see Charlie and to let you know that I don't know where and when Picasso said that quote. It would be interesting so if you ever find out-let me know! Thanks for visiting me!
Well done to Charlie!
ReplyDeleteWell done Charlie!
ReplyDeleteDid you know that Neil Armstrong fluffed his lines? He should have said "That's one small step for A man, one giant leap for mankind" but he missed out the A. Without the A then the words man and mankind mean the same thing.
He's got a wonderful sense of timing, hasn't he Auntie Gwen?
ReplyDeleteWe've cupboard locks a-plenty, Mary - all I've got to do it fit them!
You're right, Robert and Jenny - it's like Top Gear at the toddler group, I can tell you!
Thanks for looking Sarah. Actually "if you know where you're going before you set off, why bother?" (I'm paraphrasing!) could be Charlie's motto now he's walking.
Thank-you, Cheshire Wife. We'll have h climbing Mow Cop in a week or two.
Actually I did know that, Troy. If only Armstrong had been a poet no-one would've minded him taking liberties with the English language. Still can't find a - beep - recording of him - beep!
Oh that was just so sweet to watch. xo
ReplyDeleteSplendid!
ReplyDeleteThanks, DJ - we were lucky he did it all again for the camera!
ReplyDeleteIt is, Z - quite splendid!
wonderful to see that - thank you! xx e and j
ReplyDeleteanother milestone has been reached! How exciting! Congrats to Charlie!
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it Emma, and thanks, Caroline! Milestones all the way from now on.
ReplyDeleteYay, nice one Charlie. And I loved his expression the first time when he was looking up at you all with a massive grin on his little face. :D
ReplyDeleteWell done Charlie!! Awww look at his little face...
ReplyDeleteI've given you an award Dotterel - do pop over and collect when you get a sec =)
LBB x
Well done Charlie! (Lovely camera work as well BTW.) Great kiss from big sis at the end. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh, doesn't he look pleased with himself, Jo?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the award, LBB. You're too kind.
Yes, a real 'mwah' from Sally, Hadrianda. I think she was as pleased as Charlie!
